ANNOYED MUM POINTS OUT HUGE PROBLEM WITH MOTHER'S DAY - BUT NOT EVERYONE AGREES

The anonymous mum says last year's Mother's Day was a bit of a nightmare and she's really not looking forward to their celebrations on Sunday

Is it really all it's cracked up to be? (Stock image)(Image: Getty Images/Caiaimage)

Mother's Day is the day when all mums are told to put their feet up and relax while their little angels do all the hard work.

Most women love it and see it as a chance to chill in front of the TV (while praying they don't burn the kitchen down when cooking their breakfast in bed).

Or do they?

One woman claims the day isn't all it's cracked up to be and says there is one big, big problem with the celebrations.

Posting on parenting website NetMums , she explains: "Maybe I'm just a miserable cow but I dread Mother's Day!

"It's a day of my MIL [mother-in-law] with her sour face on because she "doesn't like a fuss" and being told that you can't do the stuff you do the other 364 days a year, no washing, ironing, cleaning, cooking etc.

She says it throws her routine out (stock image)(Image: Getty Images/iStockphoto)

"Well sounds great but no one else does anything so it means my routine goes out the window and I end up with a mess to sort on the Monday when everyone else is back at work/school.

"Went out for a meal last year and the pub was packed to the gills with stressed out staff who threw our meals at us basically.

"I would happily cancel and not have the stress! Does anyone actually enjoy it??"

Lots of other mums commented on her post explaining why they aren't looking forward to the big day.

But others disagree and can't wait to celebrate.

She knows she'll end up with a LOT of chores to catch up on(Image: Getty)

One mum write: "I love it! Nothing better than the kids leaping on the bed at the crack of dawn with a handmade card and picture with big smiles on their faces and massive hugs for me."

Another replied: "I like it, our parents don’t live near us so we don’t tend to spend it with them but my husband and boys get me a present and card and take me out for dinner.

"I think it’s sweet, I reciprocate on Father’s Day, I don’t think it does any harm to remind the kids to take stock and appreciate what we do though of course that’s something to be instilled outside of that day too!"

MALE BIRTH CONTROL PILL PASSES HUMAN SAFETY TESTS

Credit: Pixabay

A new male birth control pill passed tests of safety and tolerability when healthy men used it daily for a month, and it produced hormone responses consistent with effective contraception, according to researchers at two institutions testing the drug. The Phase 1 study results was presented Sunday, March 24 at ENDO 2019, the Endocrine Society's annual meeting in New Orleans, La.

The experimental male oral contraceptive is called 11-beta-methyl-19-nortestosterone dodecylcarbonate, or 11-beta-MNTDC. It is a modified testosterone that has the combined actions of a male hormone (androgen) and a progesterone, said the study's co-senior investigator, Christina Wang, M.D., Associate Director, Clinical and Translational Science Institute at Los Angeles Biomed Research Institute (LA BioMed), Torrance, Calif.

"Our results suggest that this pill, which combines two hormonal activities in one, will decrease sperm production while preserving libido," Wang said.

The study took place in 40 healthy men at LA BioMed and the University of Washington in Seattle, Wash. Ten study participants randomly received a placebo capsule, or dummy drug. The other 30 men received 11-beta-MNTDC at one of two doses; 14 men received 200 milligrams, or mg, and 16 got the 400 mg dose. Subjects took the drug or placebo once daily with food for 28 days. The Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, which is developing 11-beta-MNTDC and other male contraceptives, funded this study.

Among men receiving 11-beta-MNTDC, the average circulating testosterone level dropped as low as in androgen deficiency, but the participants reportedly did not experience any severe side effects. Wang said drug side effects were few, mild and included fatigue, acne or headache in four to six men each. Five men reported mildly decreased sex drive, and two men described mild erectile dysfunction, but sexual activity was not decreased, she said. Furthermore, no participant stopped taking the drug because of side effects, and all passed safety tests.

Effects due to low testosterone were minimal, according to co-senior investigator, Stephanie Page, M.D., Ph.D., Professor of Medicine at the University of Washington School of Medicine, because "11-beta-MNTDC mimics testosterone through the rest of the body but is not concentrated enough in the testes to support sperm production."

Levels of two hormones required for sperm production dropped greatly compared to placebo, the researchers found. The drug effects were reversible after stopping treatment, Wang noted.

Because the drug would take at least three 60 to 90 days to affect sperm production, 28 days of treatment is too short an interval to observe optimal sperm suppression, Wang explained. They plan longer studies, and if the drug is effective, it will move to larger studies and then testing in sexually active couples.

"Safe, reversible hormonal male contraception should be available in about 10 years," Wang predicted.

Wang said most men are open to using this type of male birth control. She cited a multinational survey of 9,000 men published in the journal Human Reproduction in February 2005 that found that 55 percent of men in stable relationships want to try new, hormonal male contraceptive methods if they are reversible.

This experimental contraceptive, 11-Beta-MNTDC, is a "sister compound" to dimethandrolone undecanoate, or DMAU, the first potential male birth control pill to undergo testing by the same research team. Their results were published February 1, 2019 in The Journal of Clinical Endocrinology and Metabolism.

"The goal is to find the compound that has the fewest side effects and is the most effective," Page said. "We are developing two oral drugs in parallel in an attempt to move the [contraceptive medicine] field forward."

GUNMAN OPENS FIRE ON CHURCHGOERS IN EBONYI, KILLS MOTHER OF 7 (PHOTO)

A 55-year-old woman was on Sunday shot dead while on her way to the church.

Mrs Chinyere Agwu, who is the mother of seven children, and two other women were going to the Solution Ground International Ministries located on Okigwe Road, Amasiri, in the Afikpo North Local Government Area of Ebonyi State around 5am on Sunday, March 24, 2019, when the incident happened.

On approaching the church door, the women were said to have spotted a man, whom they identified as Paul, and he allegedly opened fire on them.

The General Overseer of the Church, Pastor Michael Uche, told newsmen that he was alerted to the incident by one of the victims, who ran home after the gun attack.

Uche said the suspect’s target was his mother and not the late Agwu.

He added that the suspect had threatened to deal with his mother over an alleged squabble between her and the suspect’s wife.

Corroborating the story, an assistant pastor in the church, Emmanuel Onyiagha, said the congregation resorted to self-help after failing to secure the assistance of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad in the area to rescue the victim.

Onyiagha said Agwu was later rushed to the Mater Hospital in Afikpo, where it was discovered that she had suffered multiple bullet wounds bbefore she died.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mrs Loveth Odah, said the suspect, who was identified as Paul Okoudu, had been arrested.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspect will be charged to court if investigation links him to the crime.

Odah stated,

“The report before me says he used a locally-made pistol to shoot the woman.

“We are calling on Ebonyi residents to come up with useful information on anyone with criminal record, who is bent on committing criminality in the state.”

WOMAN ABUSED IN VIRAL NUDE VIDEO BEGS FOR JUSTICE

Ms Ogochukwu Okafor, young mother of a six-year-old son filmed nude in Anambra State in a video that has gone viral on the internet on Tuesday demanded for justice.

Okafor, who spoke to newsmen in Awka, described the incident as `unfortunate’ adding that the video had ruined her reputation and career.

The victim, a widow said she dropped out of school after she lost her husband.

She said that she held an Ordinary National Certificate (OND) and was currently unemployed.

Okafor said she could never be assuaged by any amount of plea to rescind her decision to have the suspects prosecuted.

“I am a single mother, I lost my husband and I am just struggling to take care of my boy who is just six years.

“I feel terrible, I feel disorganised; if it is just my face I would have endured it but my nakedness all over the place.

“They have ruined my career both in Nigeria and outside the country,” she lamented.

Nwankwo, who flogged the victim, said she never knew her action would assume this regrettable dimension.

She said it was a transferred aggression from her estranged husband who left her and took away her son.

Nwankwo said her intention was to go to her sister’s house who had complained to her about the relationship between her husband and the lady to settle the matter.

”I feel bad, I did not have it in mind that it will turn out this way; My plan was just to go there and settle the situation.

“The memory of my past experience with my ex husband who took away my son made me to transfer the whole aggression on her.

“My sister called me for help that her husband has been sleeping around with this lady and that got me angry.

“When I got there, the lady ran into the toilet and locked the door and I asked her to come out and flogged her, but I was not the person that sent out the video,” she said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Okafor was allegedly lured to the home of her Facebook male friend, Mr Ifeanyi Azotani only to be humiliated by Azotani’s wife and her friend who got her nude and had her snapped.

The Anambra Commissioner of Police, Rabiu Ladodo, who paraded Azotani, his wife, Tochukwu and her friend Ogochukwu for the act, said the suspects stripped their victim and video recorded her naked.

He said that Okafor was lured by her Face book friend, Azotani to his house in Amawbia, Awka, only for his wife, Tochukwu emerged and locked her in the toilet.

“The suspect’s friend, Nwankwo stripped Okafor naked and flogged her severally while the principal suspect was busy video-taping the incident and thereafter they pushed her out from the compound naked.

“The suspects demanded the sum of N60, 000 from their victim or have her further humiliated by pushing the video to the internet.

“Consequently, when the complainant could not pay the money as requested, the principal suspect actualised her threat and posted the naked video to the internet and since then the video went viral,” he said.

SEE HOW NIGERIA’S 36 STATES FARE IN HIV PREVALENCE

How Nigeria’s 36 states fare in HIV prevalence

Two South-south states are among the three states with the highest HIV prevalence rate in Nigeria.

Akwa Ibom tops the prevalence rate chart with about 5.5 per cent of its residents living with the virus. It is followed by Benue which has a prevalence rate of 5.3 per cent while Rivers is third with a prevalence rate of 3.8 per cent.

The details were contained in the Nigerian HIV/AIDs Indicator and Impact Survey (NAIIS) whose result was released last week in Abuja.

The result shows that about one per cent of Nigerians (1.9 million people) are currently living with HIV/AIDs.

This figure, according to the Minister of Health, Isaac Adewole, moves Nigeria from second to the fourth position among countries battling the HIV epidemic.

With an earlier estimate of about 3.2 million people living with HIV, Nigeria was second after South Africa which ranks first with about 7.1 million people living with HIV.

Announcing the NAIIS result in Abuja on Thursday, the Director General of the National Agency for the Control of AIDs (NACA), Sani Aliyu, said the percentage of People Living with HIV among adults is 1.4 per cent (1.9 per cent among females and 0.9 per cent among males.)

The National AIDS survey was launched in June 2018 to determine the true distribution of HIV and AIDS, Hepatitis B and Hepatitis C in the country.

The survey reached around 220,000 people in about 100,000 households and was conducted between July and December 2018.

According to the survey, the South-south zone of the country has the highest HIV prevalence, at 3.1 per cent among adults.

HIV prevalence is also high in the North-central zone with 2.1 per cent and in the South-east zone, 1.9 per cent.

The three regions with lower prevalence rate are the South-west – 1.2 per cent, North-east – 1.1 per cent, and the North-west zone – 0.6 per cent.

The Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is a virus that attacks cells in the immune system, which serves as the body’s natural defence against illnesses.

Though the popular way of contracting this virus is through vaginal or anal sex, there are other ways. These include sharing of needles or syringes, piercings, tattoos, blood transfusions, semen (cum), or vaginal fluids into open cuts or sores on the body. HIV currently has no cure but can be prevented and managed with proper medication.
